Statutory Functions
The Malawi Defence Force Command and Staff College operates under a comprehensive mandate to provide world-class military education, training, and professional development. Below are the core functions as established by the College Control Board.
Directing Staff
MDF Officer Admission
Admit student officers from the Malawi Defence Force to follow courses of study at the Staff College.
International Admission
Admit student officers from Government Ministries, Agencies, and Cooperating Forces outside Malawi.
Public Officer Admission
Admit public officers to defence and military management courses, with fees as prescribed.
Examinations
Conduct examinations to ascertain proficiency of admitted student officers in selected courses.
Certification
Issue Certificates and confer 'psc' (passed staff college) designation upon successful completion.
Infrastructure
Erect, equip and maintain libraries, laboratories, and other buildings for college purposes.
Academic Posts
Create Professorships, Lectureships and other posts for efficient college functioning.
Staff Appointments
Appoint employees and agents for administration upon College Control Board approval.
Grants & Donations
Receive grants, gifts, or donations from local or foreign sources.
Borrowing Power
Borrow or raise money for college purposes with Defence Force Commander authorization.
Property Management
Acquire, hold, and dispose of movable or immovable property as vested in the college.
Contracts
Enter into and perform contracts or agreements for attainment of college objectives.
Discipline
Withdraw participants whose academic or moral conduct is considered unworthy of fellowship.
Collaborations
Enter collaborative ventures and establish linkages with other institutions for capacity building.
Accommodation Facilities
The college provides comprehensive accommodation facilities for student officers, directing staff, and visiting faculty. Modern living quarters are maintained to support the residential nature of the professional military education programs.
Medical Staff
Qualified medical personnel are available to ensure the health and wellbeing of all college personnel. Medical services include routine care, emergency response, and health education programs.
Academic Programmes & Outreach
Programme Development
Develop and mount programmes promoting excellence in the Staff College.
Senior Leadership Programmes
Conduct programmes for one-star generals and above to exchange views on defence matters.
Publications
Disseminate information through books, records, and reports as contribution to knowledge.
Additional Activities
Promote activities that help achieve college objectives as determined by the Board.
Investment
Invest funds in a manner determined by the College Control Board.
Ancillary Powers
Do all acts necessary for conducive or incidental to attainment of objectives.
